The Four Ps for Musical Success

Rule #1: Positive Attitude

Student's Job: Bring a positive attitude to your playing. Do not give up when the going is rough!

Music Teacher's Job: Provide motivation and guidance with positive reinforcement. Keep the students' spirits up!

Many beginning music students say "I can't." I consider this a music lesson swear word and do not allow my students to speak it!

Rule #2: Patience

Student's Job: Have patience with the learning process. This includes parents of students as well...Sometimes it takes time to absorb musical concepts and technique!

Music Teacher's Job: Have patience with the student. This is a given.

Remember: most people do not become musicians after the first few lessons. Allow yourself (or your child!) that time.

Rule #3: Passion

Student's Job: To WANT to learn!

Music Teacher's Job: To help the student find where their passion for music lies by providing material that interests and engages the student

Music should be fun: learn to play pieces you enjoy!

Rule #4: Practice

Student's Job: Make time for practice

Music Teacher's Job: Help student develop healthy practice habits

Bottom line: If you do not have time to practice, you do not have time for music lessons.
