Here is some basic information for you to consider when you are planning on buying a piano.

Basic Piano Info

The piano is member of the percussion family. The full name of the piano is "pianoforte," which means "soft loud" in Italian. This is because the instrument can play both loud and soft sounds, depending on how hard you press the keys.

Types of Pianos

Grand Piano and Baby Grand Piano

If you can afford it and have enough room, buy a grand piano!

While grand pianos are be more costly than other types of pianos, they have the best sound quality and make the transition to performance the easiest.

In addition to being the ideal instrument to practice on, grand pianos are a lovely aesthetic addition to any living room.

Upright Piano

If you do not have a lot of space, have a low budget, or if you move often, the upright piano is a the best choice for you to purchase.

Even though they are cheaper than grand pianos, upright pianos can have very good sound quality and touch. There are many varieties to choose from, including the upright grand and the spinet.

Electric Keyboard

Yamaha YPG-625 88-Key Weighted Action Portable Grand Keyboard An electric keyboard is a good purchase option for people who move often, live in apartments, or for those withyounger children.

A good piano keyboard can cost as much as a regular piano, but they vary in price greatly depending on the features. Make sure you purchase a keyboard that has the full 88 keys and that the keys are weighted or semi-weighted.

Piano Accessories

Musicians Gear Deluxe Padded Piano Bench Usually, pianists sit when they are performing, however in pop/rock settings, they often stand. For our purposes, you must have a piano bench or stool. When you buy an acoustic piano, usually the piano comes with the bench; when you purchase a keyboard, it often does not and you must purchase it separately.

Adjustable benches are the best for young students because they can be raised/lowered according to the height of the student.
